Moving / Buying a Property Abroad Tips
We all know how stressful it can be when moving house, moving abroad involves a lot more preparation as it involves the changing from one culture to another. Go Taxi Van Couriers have compiled you a ‘Buying a Property Abroad’ checklist that will give you advice and save you time and money throughout your move overseas.
Preparation
Try and get everything prepared as early as possible, organisation is the key so go through all the necessary paperwork and make your own to do list before you start.
Packing
Only pack your essential items you need, the more you take the more it will cost to transport your goods overseas. Wherever you are moving abroad to there will be shops where you can buy everything you need.
Overseas Bank Account
Open a new bank account in your country you are residing in and ensure you get a Certificate of Importation for the money you bring in from the UK.
Bills and Taxes
Make sure you set up standing orders in your new bank account to pay for bills and taxes. Not paying your taxes in foreign countries including France, Portugal and Spain can lead to court action and also seizure of your property.
Passports
Check passports are up to date and are valid. Make sure you have visas etc organised to the country you are moving to. If you are moving property in the EU no visas are required.
Pets
The Pet Travel Scheme applies to most EU countries, make sure you check if it applies to the country you are moving to. You also need to look into inoculations and quarantine and the price it will cost to move your pet abroad. We recommend you look into this at least 6 months before you are due to move abroad.
Learn the Language
Before you move to your new home abroad be sure to learn the countries language, even if it is just to say hello, thank you etc. Local people will appreciate this and it will help you get by a lot easier.
